Treatment Modalities
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a structured and goal-oriented therapeutic modality that is focused on helping clients to understand and change the negative thinking patterns that are affecting their emotions and behaviour.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a therapeutic modality that combines traditional CBT with a philosophical process known as dialectics — i.e. the integration of opposing concepts. DBT therapists work to help their clients reconcile acceptance and change-oriented strategies in a way that enables them to better manage their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
MBCT is a therapeutic modality that combines traditional CBT with mindfulness practices such as meditation and grounding exercises. MBCT is mainly used to treat individuals who have recurring bouts of depression.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy is a psychotherapeutic intervention that is premised on the idea that we make meaning out of life events based on the dominant cultural narratives or discourses that are available to us. Narrative therapy works by empowering people to critically examine these internalized discourses and make life decisions that align with their true desires and values.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
A mindfulness-based therapy that helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings, commit to values-driven actions, and build psychological flexibility instead of trying to eliminate distress.
Relational Psychotherapy
Focuses on the healing power of relationships, emphasizing the therapist-client bond to explore how past and present relationships impact emotional wellbeing and patterns of connection.
Attachment Theory
A foundational framework that explores how early relationships with caregivers shape our patterns of trust, connection, and emotional regulation throughout life.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
A therapeutic approach that sees the mind as made up of different "parts" (like an inner critic or a wounded child), and helps individuals build a compassionate relationship with each part to restore inner harmony.
Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST)
A structured approach designed to help individuals with complex trauma learn to stabilize emotions, reduce dissociation, and safely reconnect with parts of themselves.
Emotion-Focused Therapy / Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFT / EFFT)
A foundational framework that explores how early relationships with caregivers shape our patterns of trust, connection, and emotional regulation throughout life.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A trauma therapy that uses guided eye movements or bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess distressing memories and reduce their emotional impact.
